My Approach

I tailor my approach to each person. In our first session we will talk through the difficulties you have been experiencing, we will have a think together about the options available and together we will agree a way forward.

We will attend to body and mind, speaking about the connections between the brain and the body, through the nervous system and understanding things like the fight and flight response and how memory is formed and stored differently during and after traumatic events.

Humans and animals have an amazing ability to heal. My aim is to facilitate that natural process, identifying and address any obstacles. Creating a safe space may be enough or there may be something else blocking it, which is where CBT, EMDR and other approaches can be helpful. Whatever we are using, we will do so collaboratively, in a very open and explicit way so that you are able to make an informed choice at every stage of the journey.

CBT has been proven to be effective in addressing various challenges including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, perfectionism, OCD, panic attacks, phobias, self-criticism and people-pleasing. In our sessions, we will work together to identify, make sense of, and ultimately break any patterns or cycles that appear to be having a negative impact on your life.

These are well established approaches to working with trauma or specifically, with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including birth trauma and trauma from sexual violence. Both approaches aim to facilitate the brain’s natural attempts at processing the traumatic event or events, which, in the case of PTSD, have become blocked.

I personalise treatment to you, drawing from a range of evidence-based therapies and the latest insights from neuroscience and psychology. This is especially effective if our work together includes issues related to early childhood trauma, intergenerational trauma, body image, binge eating, comfort eating, overwhelming feelings of shame, or high levels of self-criticism.
